Anger is a natural emotion, that we often feel when we feel an injustice of some kind. There are many reasons why young people feel angry. These could include divorce in the family, not being listened to, someone close dies, too much pressure, things being unfair, being hurt or abused. It can even be because we find it hard to express our feelings. Some people begin to ‘lose it’ when it feels like there isn’t a good reason and this can be a problem.
Having problems with anger can show in many ways such as:
- Shouting at or picking on other people
- Hitting other people
- Breaking or throwing things
- Winding people up
- Losing control
Doing these things can make us feel better for a short time, but it is better to find other ways to deal with those feelings such as doing something energetic like running or cycling, taking long slow breaths when you feel angry, listening to music, or going for a walk. One of the best things to do is to talk to friends or family or someone you trust. This could help you to work out why you feel so angry so you can begin to tackle the problem.
