Scared / Worried
Anxiety is a normal, natural emotion that helps us deal with difficult or dangerous situations.
Some of the things you may feel are:
- Feeling anxious, nervous, worried, tense, stressed, uptight and on edge.
- Constant worrying, racing thoughts, can’t concentrate.
- Pounding heart, tight chest, stomach churning ‘butterflies’, tense muscles, feeling jumpy, sweating, dizzy.
- Pacing up and down, talking quickly, always on the go, snappy and irritable, can’t sit and relax.
Anxiety can become a problem if you are feeling this way most of the time, whatever the situation. It can stop you doing things you enjoy or getting on with life because the feelings of worry and dread are always there.
There are lots of different ways anxiety can affect your life. You could develop a ‘phobia’ about something which means you have a genuine fear or dread of something. Or have ‘panic attacks’ which can be really frightening, although they are not dangerous.
There are things that you can do yourself to help manage anxiety. Click on the links below to find out more about anxiety and organisations that can help.
